In this video I share my weekend sketches and how I was developing these sketches throughout the weekend. I also share a hack/tip on how I’m keeping my paint markers from drying out. Below are pics of my desk as I was working and when I was out at the creek.
Love seeing your studio in “full steam ahead” mode. Your woods paintings and pics are so inspiring! I’m working on getting back to drawing/painting in nature. Making progress 😻 hope to actually have time in field by next week. 🤞
Your color work is exquisite. Especially how you captured the perception of depth and how the banks change planes (height?) in the last sketchbook painting.
Each image in each sketchbook you shared captured such important elements, so successfully, of what you had to have been seeing. I can literally see and feel where you might have been sitting. Simply wonderful.
I’m understanding the significance of learning and knowing a physical place through the work you’re sharing. How repetitive drawing/painting a specific location plays such an important role in developing skills. I didn’t really understand that before I started watching your channel. It’s so important.
It's true that the repetitiveness is quite important to my process - lots of artist work this way. it helps you get to know a place and keep pushing yourself. you just can't get it all the first go around
that' s so helpful to hear because I always think if something doesn't click the first few times I try to draw it, then it mustn't be good at that particular topic and move on.
These are beautiful sketches, Sandi. I know “that green” - it’s magical, and it never seems to last long enough. I’m grateful for your Monday inspiration and hope you’re feeling much better soon.
Thank you Sandi for sharing. I would love to hear more about how you break up large areas of green. You are such a master at it. Here in sunny Arizona we are about to lose all of our greens for the summer so I’m trying to capture them in my paintings quickly. I learn something new from you every time you post. Feel better soon.
Received your Substack notice while taking a art room clean up break. It is inspiring to see your plein air and studio setups. Love all of the sketches especially how you were able to get the depth of “forest” in your last one.
Wonderful, thank you so very much Sandi for this brilliant video, which is so inspirational. You have created so many wonderful paintings! I do hope you get better soon!
Your outdoor sketching so inspiring to me and I learn so much from each post. Sorry if you already answered this - but what kind of seat do you use? That one looks nice.
I hope you are feeling better - you keep going despite feeling poorly. You are so committed.
I use the Molotow marker! And they are fantastic! And they don‘t dry out and are refillable! And they have a duo marker! I love this when I am outside!
I so love these peeks into your sketchbook, and hearing about your process! Even when you're sick, you manage to get an amazing amount of work done! Wow! 👏
I also really love the photos you included. You have the most succulent studio!! 🩷
Thank you for making this post for us to enjoy! Hope you feel better soon!🌻

Had to add another comment 🤣 I’m so chatty.

thank you Nan. I'd have to give that some thought - I think it's kind of intuitive and may have to do more with composition than anything

I'll try to remember to post something about the seat here soon - it's out in the car at the moment and I can't remember the name of it

And they have dripstick squeeze!
Wonderful paintings/sketches. Loved the creek bed site especially
Totally identify with the bathroom countdown lol. Frequent urgent flyer lolol 🤪
I'm annoyingly frequent! Grady tells me all the time I should just wear an adult diaper 😂
