They look wonderful Sandi. How do you stop them smudging in the sketchbook?

Just put a piece of paper between the pages

I love using soft pastels (well, anything I can smush, really) and the portability of these pencils feels like the best of all worlds. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with them!

Hi Sandi. I'm a new follower. I have REALLY been enjoying your videos! Have you tried CarbOthello pastel pencils by Stabilo? They are awesome! They blend really well with water. The best I've seen. Love your stuff. Thanks for doing what ya do! Rose

Rose, welcome! Sooooo glad you've been enjoying the videos 🙌. I've heard good things about that brand and I'm really hoping I ordered some of them - I'll have to go check

I was so impressed by your vlog yesterday that I ended up ordering several tubes of the Turner gouache and a few of the Pitt pastels as well as some of the CarbOthello pencils. I feel sure that whenever there’s a run on supplies at Blick, et al they refer to it as “The Sandi Hester Effect”.

Lovely Sandi. You always take a material and make it your own. Personally, I love the Conte pastel pencils. I feel like they go down so SMOOTH, like butter as far as pastel pencils go, and I have tested several brands. But I’ll be curious to see what you think!

Hmmm, I hope I bought some of those!

I just went to buy some of those and was trying while sitting in my car waiting for an appointment. Say you were on. Thanks !! I like them too so far.

Thank you Sandi! I love how you create birds and trees.

I think I will get my fingers all dirty by experimenting with soft pastels.

I love the birds!!! Thanks for the review of the Pitt Pastel pencils(that’s a tongue twister). I have a couple of them that I haven’t played with much. When I heard the scratchiness on the paper and the results you are getting I had to get them out and go sketch!! Thanks Sandi.
