Watch now (10 mins) | This is the final tour of my latest 6 finished sketchbooks! You can see the others in the last post her on Substack and here on my YouTube channel. Things/People mentioned in this video: My Landscape Class Emma Carlisle Painting From Family Photos Video
I think you read my thoughts Sandi... I just checked my substack emails and hoped there is one from you, there was none, but a minute later it popped up on my screen! I am so glad, that's what I need today. Thank you for all your lovely and inspiring videos! Looking forward to watch it now! xx
I love getting a look at your sketchbooks, Sandi, and I really enjoyed seeing your abstract experiments. Abstract painting certainly does come with its own set of challenges, but one of the most important and liberating pieces of advice I have learned - from you - is that you can always paint over what you’ve done. Your YT videos showed me that building up layer after layer until you reach the point where you realize it’s time to stop creates such exciting textures very useful for abstraction - this was revelatory for me. Some of the best advice ever!
I love how you use your sketchbooks to learn and follow your curiosity. Such freedom! And I so enjoy those landscapes from on top of your mountain and the land you gained acess to. Thanks for sharing!
I love the work in this one! As the viewer I think it’s nice to see a mix of different topics, but I understand how you’d want to keep things separate.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and process for your sketchbooks. I think it is very beneficial to go back and forth between abstract and figurative work. Drawing from life develops compositional skills and eye/hand coordination and connects us to that thing we are drawing. You always inspire!!
I just love all of your sketchbook tours, Sandi! Also, you got me hooked on the Talens sketchbooks. They can really take a beating and I love the smoother surface and off white paper. And so many sizes and formats! Hooray!
*happy sigh* Thank you for these sketchbook tours....they're so very wonderful, both to look at and learn from as I never leave one of your videos without a nugget or two of wisdom from you!
I’m hoping to get looser and looser with landscapes. I so often get caught in the realism and then the harsh disappointment when it doesn’t look real at.
