Thank you Sandi and everyone for information and links. I am curious, does anyone read and or understand what he writes? Or do you simply look at the visuals? Px
Hey Perla, I actually did find a video of "DRAW with Chris" (Composition Lessons #3: Composition of Outdoor Painting) and I think that if I finally see more through this video, then I could read and understand the book better afterwards.
Thank you Sandi. This was also the question that I wanted to ask. Your answer beat me to it! I like that you have started bringing posts like this to my email. Great idea!
I have this book too. Just to let you know in the latest edition a lot of the black and white pictures are not the best quality. It is particularly obvious in the little thumbnails. There are not too many photos though. That is why the new version with the mountains on the cover is a reasonable price, but used versions with the boats on them are in the $100s. I have the new version and it is fine, but I was confused with the weird prices.
Thanks Sandi, I have been looking for a good resource on composition as it’s so critical but most of my library just dedicates one page to it! Clearly that’s not enough to tackle such an important part of the process. I’ve abandoned paintings and sketches when I’ve realised partway through that the composition is weak.
Look forward to the zoom video - I’m in Australia so most of the Patreons I subscribe to are meeting at 1am my time so I can’t attend 😆
thank you Sandi 🤍
I just ordered a copy of this book, I couldn’t remember the title. It is $43 on Amazon
That’s where I ordered from too. Sandi will probably make them sell out! Lol
😂
Well I’d buy almost anything from Sandi 🤣
Thank you, Sandi! I ordered the book. Can’t wait to learn more. And I definitely have been focusing on value more. You are a treasure!

Hi Sandi, thank you for launching this subject, it is so interesting! Feels like you started a little studie group here on Substack :-)
In these two video's on YouTube you talk about value, but also about compsition (they're from last year): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcHaw13hKRg & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYod_KykeHA
Searching for Edgar Payne, I stumbled on this long video by Jim Wodark on composition:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUhWYOSv3YI Seems like he read Edgar Payne also. All the best to everyone!
Thank you, Sandi! 😀 🙏
